Figure 3 | Nuclear-penetrating autoantibodies and synthetic lethality. Nuclear-penetrating autoantibodies can inhibit DNA repair or directly damage DNA. In normal homology-directed repair (HDR)-proficient cells, this DNA damage can be repaired and the cells survive. Cancer cells that are HDR-deficient, however, cannot tolerate the accumulation of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and ultimately die.
