2. Nonfiction is the opposite of fiction, because fiction is made up and nonfiction is truth– WRONG!
Take a close look at these covers from the 2014 Election.
Which of them is truth?
None of them… Each One is a version of the truth!

3. Teaching Point!
Today I want to teach you that every text reveals an author’s perspective on that event, topic, or issue. Figuring out an author’s perspective can help you figure out how exactly his or her ideas fit into the issue. One of the best ways to figure out an author’s perspective is to lay that perspective next to others and study connections and contradictions across sources.
Perspective is different from point of view! Perspective is how an author’s point of view has shaped what the text says and how it is written.

6. Next, scan the headings!
Are these positive or negative words?

7. What point of view is this text
What point of view is this text? Is it a first person account or something else? What do you notice about the language used? Did you notice more positive language like we saw in the headings or something else?
