3 Activation We will now look at some poetry by famous Arabic authors.
Try to determine the values each writer is trying to espouse. How do these values align or differ from the Spanish- speaking and Chinese-speaking cultures? Activation

4 How Much Arabic Do You Speak?
Look at the worksheet I have given you. Underline the words in the short story that you believe to have originated from Arabic. Are there any words you were surprised to see have Arabic origins? How Much Arabic Do You Speak?

5 You will be divided in to preassigned groups
You will be divided in to preassigned groups. Each group will research the topic of Islamic dress code using the following guidelines. The religious basis of the dress code. The dress code for men explaining the names & types of dress. The dress code for women explaining the names & types of dress. How do the dress codes change in different countries? One drawing or photograph of each of the types of men’s and women’s dress. Islamic Dress Code

6 Lets watch the following video about a current issue regarding women’s rights in Arab-speaking countries. Women’s Rights

7 Women’s Rights Research & Jigsaw
You will be divided in to five groups. Each member of the group will be assigned a topic listed below. You will then join the others with the same topic and research how it applies to women in Arabic society today. When you are done, you will rejoin your original group and create a poster with all of the information you have collected. This means you need to be actively engaged and taking notes the entire time!
