1 Plan to Do Student Speeches
Topic given Video about making a speech Video notes Prepare your speech Practice Do the speech Speech (The four steps were done.) Speech notes (separate grade) Turn in speech notes after speech is done Grading

2 Some Help to Do a Speech To Begin: “My name is _____________________, a student at ___________.” “I’m here today to speak to you about _______________________.” Introduction (an overview; general talk) Body (specifics) Conclusion (Return to the hook. “Why did I give the speech?” This is not a prepared speech. A prepared speech is in response to an incident where only facts are provided. The speaker is referring to notes exclusively to give accurate information, followed by a question and answer period. Practice your speech! More than once! Speak as naturally as possible using your own words. Don’t read from a paper. You are speaking to live people and not a piece of paper. Eye scan. Include passion in your speech. Be careful about “tells.”

3 If you have trouble pronouncing a word, practice that word.
In the introduction and body of the speech, use outside sources to make your three points, reasons, examples, etc. To start a speech, the student can begin this way: “ My name is ______________. I’m a student at _________________. I’m here today to speak to you about ____________________________.” Change the inflection of your voice during your speech. If you use the board, don’t let it be the main part of your speech. You are the focus. Tell the audience you are done speaking by saying, “Thank you.” Write the speech by separating it into the parts shown in your notes. This will tell you that your speech is ready to practice. Write the speech in the 4-step method given in class. Give it to the teacher along with any notes after the speech is finished.
