Cisco Unity Bridge is installed on a dedicated hardware platform.

17 © 2006 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. CUDN v1.14-17 Summary Cisco Unity Bridge is used to send messages between the Avaya Octel system and Cisco Unity. Octel networking is the networking between Octel nodes over a proprietary protocol. Cisco Unity bridge networking is the ability to use Cisco Unity Bridge to send messages between the Cisco Unity and Avaya networks. Cisco Unity bridge networking with a remote Cisco Unity Bridge means that Cisco Unity Bridge can be located across the WAN so that it can be collocated with the Avaya system. Multi-node Octel networking is defined as multiple Octel nodes networked together. Cisco Unity Bridge in Multinode Octel networking allows the Bridge to act like part of the Octel network so that it is treated like a peer.

18 © 2006 Cisco Systems, Inc. All rights reserved. CUDN v1.14-18 Summary (Cont.) Collapsing a node means removing an Octel node and replacing it with a Cisco Unity node that will use Cisco Unity Bridge to communicate with the remaining Octel network. Avaya Interchange can take on the function of a protocol translator, taking in VPIM and AMIS, then translating the information to the Octel networking format. Cisco Unity Bridge can be a part of multinode Octel networking with Interchange. When collapsing a node with Interchange, Cisco Unity Bridge will look like an Octel node, and the collapsed node will use Cisco Unity Bridge to get to the Octel network. Using Avaya Interchange and other Avaya products, it is possible to create a digital Octel network (Octel to Octel).
