Real-life Situations As a teacher’s assistant at a local high school, you keep track of students’ grades in Microsoft Excel. At semester’s end, you use a formula to calculate the final letter grade for each student. The final letter grades, however, do not calculate properly. What might be causing the error? Possibilities include: Double-check your formula and cell references. Make sure that Excel is configured to automatically update formula results when you modify values in the worksheet. You are using photo editing software to remove red eye from a photo. After successfully removing the red eye, you save the file and notice that the size of the file nearly has doubled. What might be causing this? Possibilities include: Editing a photo sometimes and increase the file size. If you save the photo in a different file format, it may result in an increased file size. Real-life Situations A local charity in which you are active has asked you to design a one-page brochure. Each time you print the brochure, it prints the first page correctly, but a blank second page also comes out. What steps will you take to eliminate the blank second page? Possibilities include: In the Print dialog box, configure the print options to only print the first page. Navigate to the end of the brochure and make sure that there is no empty space. You are attempting for the first time to transfer video from your video recorder directly to your computer. When you save the file on your computer and play it back, the video quality is acceptable, but there is no audio. What is the first step you will take to troubleshoot this problem? Possibilities include: Make sure that your speakers are turned on and that the volume is at an acceptable level. Check speaker connections to your computer. Check program settings and make sure that it is configured to transfer video and audio. Discovering Computers 2010: Living in a Digital World Chapter 3
