1 Acrosomal Actin: Twists and Turns of a Versatile Filament
Edward H. Egelman  Current Biology  Volume 14, Issue 22, Pages R959-R961 (November 2004) DOI: /j.cub

2 Figure 1 A model for an actin filament illustrating how random angular deviations between adjacent subunits accumulate. The arrows point to crossovers of the two long-pitch helical strands, which are not physical features of F-actin, but arise from viewing the structure in two dimensions. These crossovers can be quite variable in distance [12], because the angle between subunits has a large random component [13]. Current Biology  , R959-R961DOI: ( /j.cub )

3 Figure 2 Actin subunits in F-actin can tilt, as well as twist, away from their average positions. The model in (A) shows three subunits in ‘normal’ F-actin, while in (B) the same three subunits are shown in a more twisted and tilted state [17]. The blue arrows indicate the tilt of ∼20° that each of these subunits undergoes. Current Biology  , R959-R961DOI: ( /j.cub )
