1 Development Grade 8 Sexual Health

2 Physical Development Everyone changes at different times according to their own inner “body clock” People mature at much different rates Males and females change at different times. Females generally develop earlier than males, but not always.

3 Physical Development Feel more tired and restless
Exhibit increased energy Show more concern about their body image & appearance Hair growth in pubic region, underarms, arms, legs and eventually face and chest for males. Oil and sweat glands become more active.

4 Female Development Females will often be taller at this age.
It is normal to gain fat during this time. It normally goes to breasts, hips, and thighs. Female pelvic bones begin to widen at this time. This is so women can be capable of having babies. What are the Stages of Puberty in Girls?

5 Male Development Happens later in teen years.
Shoulders will become wider and eventually more muscular. Voice will become deeper. May experience “cracking” or “squeaky” voice. This is normal! Puberty For Boys -

6 Emotional Development
Mood Swings Develop an identity separate from parents Being accepted by peers Self-conscious and sensitive to criticism Tend to believe that their experiences are unique to them alone Why are teens so moody?

7 Social Development Seek approval from peers Look for behavior models
May be rebellious towards parents Tend to overreact to teasing, embarrassment, or rejection Often draw comparisons between themselves and others

8 Sexual Development Display shyness, blushing, and modesty
Increased interest and attraction to others Concerned about physical and sexual attractiveness to others Change relationships frequently Have anxiety about being normal
