(How were they different from what came before them?) If you were living in the 1700’s and you read these ideas, would you want things to change? Social Classes Upper class – wealthy landowners Professionals – artisans, lawyers, writers Lower class – farmers, free men Slaves Government King in England Parliament in England British governors in colonies appointed by the King/Parliament No colonial representatives in Parliament

Social Classes Upper class – wealthy landowners Professionals – artisans, lawyers, writers Lower class – farmers, free men Slaves Government Representative Democracy Higher classes could vote, others were either not allowed by states laws OR it was too difficult for them to do so. Basically the leaders of the revolution (wealthy landowners and some professionals) remained in power Bill of Rights protected individual rights 3 branches of government
