Ballad A fairly short narrative poem written in a song like stanza form.

Couplet A pair of rhymed lines

Free Verse Poetry written in free verse is arranged in lines, may be more or less rhythmical, but has no fixed metrical pattern or expectation.

Lyric Poetry Poetry with a lyrical or song-like quality.

Sonnet Type of lyric poetry; fourteen lines.

End Rhyme Occurring at the end of two or more lines of verse.

Extended Rhyme The addition of extra phrases to the rhythm of the song to delay an anticipated second rhyme.

Iambic Pentameter Let’s break it down: Feet= groups of syllables
Meter= pattern of syllables in a line of poetry Iambic= type of foot with one unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable Penta= five Iambic Pentameter= a line with 5 feet (pairs) of stressed and unstressed syllables
