3 Parent signature required
DIPLOMA PATHWAYS There are 2 diploma options in high school TOPS University Jumpstart TOPS Tech All incoming freshmen will be enrolled in the TOPS University Diploma. After two years, student and parent may request to choose the TOPS Tech Diploma. Parent signature required May be ineligible to enroll in a LA 4-year public university

4 What is a unit/credit? 1 Unit = 1 Credit
1st + 2nd 9 weeks grades = 1st semester grade 3rd + 4th 9 weeks grades = 2nd semester grade Students must earn 5 credits to be in 10th grade next year.

5 Grading System GRADES: A = 93 – 100 B = 85 – 92 C = 76 – 84
F = 0 – 66 Sample Average: 1st 9 Weeks /A 2nd 9 Weeks - 90/B Semester Average /B 1st Sem. Exams count for 20% of Grade

6 Grade Point Average (GPA)
QUALITY POINTS A = 4 B = 3 C = 2 D = 1 F = 0

7 Weighted Grade Point Average (GPA)
Weighted GPA Quality Points A = Rank in class is based B = on the quality points a student C = earns in grades 9-12. D = 1 F = 0 We base our quality points on a Max. of 16 weighted units and 12 unweighted units.

8 Northshore High School
Attendance Call me if absent 2 or more days. Read the Parent/Student Handbook There is a link for the handbook on the NHS website. Students will get a copy of this on Thursday.

9 Emergency Cards Must be on file in Student Services Office.
Recommended that several additional authorized persons be listed on the emergency card. Keep up to date as the year progresses. If you have any updated custody paperwork, please let me know.

10 Clubs Club Day Students will be able to walk around at lunch to see which clubs to join It is important for your child to get involved!

11 FRESHMAN FACTS The more you get involved in your child’s education, the better they do in every way. Test scores, attitude and behavior, even the likelihood of graduation and a college education, are all greatly affected by your involvement. Make an effort to teach your child to advocate for themselves as much as possible. (i.e. suggest to them to visit and speak to the teachers/counselors on their own to resolve issues)

12 Parent Responsibilities
Check on your child’s progress regularly through JPAMS. Info. regarding JPAMS is mailed from Central Office. Contact teachers by if you would like to schedule a conference. If you need to schedule a conference with more than one teacher, contact me and I will schedule the meeting. When ing the teacher please copy (CC) the counselor on the .

13 ACADEMIC PREP PERIOD After 5th period 35 minute block
Designed to be a daily Study Hall where students can get free tutoring from their teachers or peers. Students are required to write an APP essay in every class in each semester. Students earn a ½ credit for APP for the full year. It will count as an elective.
