1 Commonly Confused Words
Using the following words in writing can often be difficult because we speak more than we write. It is important to begin writing this year with the correct form of these basic words. Different spellings mean different things, and changing one letter in a word changes the whole meaning of a sentence.

2 Tuesday October 6 To, Two, Too: To is a preposition that means in the direction of. Two is a number. Too is an adverb that means also or more than enough We drove to Mexico in two days, but had way too many suitcases. Now write your OWN sentences with these words 

3 Wednesday October 7 There, Their, They're: There is an adverb specifying place. Their is a possessive pronoun They're is a contraction of THEY ARE Fred and Jane finally washed their car. They're (they are) later than usual today. Sylvia is lying there unconscious. Now write your OWN sentences with these words 

Thursday October 8 Principle, Principal: Principal is a noun meaning the head of a school or an organization Principle is a noun meaning a basic truth or law The principal at Fowler taught us many important life principles. Your, You're: Your is a possessive pronoun. You're is a contraction of YOU ARE. You're going to catch a cold if you don't wear your coat. Now write your OWN sentences with these words 

Its, It’s: Friday October 9 Its is a possessive form of it. It’s is a contraction of IT IS or IT HAS It’s been a great day at school, except Joe’s textbook lost its cover. Through, Threw: Through is a preposition meaning by way of. Threw is a verb - the past tense of throw The player threw the ball out of the park and through the crowd. Tuesday October 13 Were, We’re, Where: Were is past tense of TO BE We’re is a contraction of WE ARE Where is an adverb that means what place We’re going to the park to see where the team is practicing. They were on the south field. Now write your OWN sentences with these words 

7 Wednesday October 14 Whether, Weather: Weather is a noun – the climate. Whether means two different possibilities The stormy weather will decide whether or not we go to the Roughriders game. Now write your OWN sentences with these words 

8 Wednesday October 14 Than, Then: Than is a conjunction used in comparisons. Then is an adverb meaning time. That pizza is more than I can eat. Tom entered, and then we yelled “Surprise!” Now write your OWN sentences with these words 
