6 What is the Articles of the Confederation
The Articles of the Confederation was America’s first attempt at a government. They were written in 1776. What is the Articles of the Confederation

7 What is a Confederation?
Confederation- a group of individual state governments banding together for a common purpose. Their common purpose was a single, strong army. What is a Confederation?

8 What Fears that shaped the Articles?
The colonists were afraid of a strong national government. A strong national government would have too much power, and be like the king. Smaller states being dominated by the larger states. What Fears that shaped the Articles?

9 What was the Structure of the Articles?
Each state was independent and had its own government and constitution (Afraid of too much power) Each state would send representatives to “Congress of the Confederation” The Congress (Legislature) was the government and the 1 branch There wasn’t a president (Executive) or court system (Judicial) In Congress, Each state got one vote. Small states had equal say as large states What was the Structure of the Articles?

A system for surveying and selling the western lands. Applied to Northwest Territory Northwest Ordinance Set a precedent for the method of admitting new states to the Union. Outlawed slavery in the Northwest territory. Accomplishments
