1 Sec 10-1B: Volume of Prisms
pg

2 Volume of a Rectangular Prism
We use the formula V = l x w x h Where l is length, w is width and h is height. What is l? What is w? What is h? 17 m 17 m 6 m 8 m 8 m 6 m V = l x w x h V = (17 m)(8 m)(6 m) V = 816 m3 Volume is always in cubic units.

3 Volume of a Triangular Prism
A triangular prism has bases that are triangles so we use the formula V = Bh, where B is the area of the base. 10 ft 30 ft 11 ft B = ½ bh V = Bh B = ½ (11 ft)(10 ft) V = (55 ft2)(30ft) B = 55 ft2 V = 1,650 ft3

4 Let’s Work this Problem!
Calculate the Volume First, calculate the area of the base B = ½ bh 5.2 B = ½ (6)(5.2) 11 B = 15.6 u 2 6 We now use V = Bh to find the volume. V = (15.6 u2)(11 u) V = Bh V = u3
