3 Security / insecurity as perceived at company level, recent experience.
Perception is reality. As a private service company, we need to guarantee security on the road for our drivers, and for our clients. We can not trust in authorities’ capabilities in terms of prevention (Police arrive after the incident). Prevention is our responsibility from the client’s point of view (consequently it is our responsibility). Nowadays countries like Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, UK, Italy, Greece etc… may be considered as high risk level countries for drivers and goods. In addition to the strict quality criteria existing in our profession, we need to add all this management measures with an increase of cost for customers.

4 You have arrived too early and we cannot unload you.
You must leave the site and park your vehicle until your scheduled booking slot. DO NOT park up on the industrial estate. It is not safe or secure, and there is a strong possibility your load will be stolen. Go back to the … (road number) and take your vehicle to the truck park at … (nearest location). You and your vehicle will be safer here than parked on this industrial estate. At the truck park there are toilets, showers and hot food.

5 What everyday response is given by company management to security risks?
We have adopted appropriate measures and security guidelines in our day to day business. Our major efforts in order to give response to security risks are focused at 3 levels: -Equipment: box trailers, special security seals, satellite monitored unit tractors, panic button response (via Qualcom – Securitir Racc). -Management: daily management from our traffic department according to driving hours capabilities in order to ensure all drivers overnight at protected parking areas. Consequently we often lose productivity. -Training: Our Human Resources Department handles special Training to all drivers and staff in order to ensure security on the road.

6 What everyday response is given by company management to security risks?
Driver’s check list before starting journey. Daily monitoring when on the road.
