1 Dr. Wilkie - Comp I FINAL EXAM Next week, the only class activity will be a final exam. It should not be too difficult if you have paid attention in class and reviewed your notes. Most students are usually done with it in less than an hour (although you have the whole class period, if you think you should need it.) 2017

2 FINAL EXAM Sentence Structure – There will be sentences on the exam that I will expect you to rewrite. You will be expected to eliminate comma splices, fragments and run-ons.

3 FINAL EXAM Sentence Structure – For example: “We are going to see the show, Gwen is playing the part of the transsexual prison guard.”

4 FINAL EXAM Sentence Structure – For example: “We are going to see the show. Gwen is playing the part of the transsexual prison guard.”

5 FINAL EXAM Punctuation – There will be sentences on the test that you will have to punctuate correctly.

6 FINAL EXAM Punctuation – For example, “When we arrived back at the house we noticed Steves new shirt was covered with chocolate stains.”

10 FINAL EXAM Word Usage – There will be sentences on the test where you will be expected to circle the right word to use in that sentence.

11 FINAL EXAM Word Usage – For example – “She told him that (it’s , its ) going to snow up in the Poconos.”

12 FINAL EXAM Word Usage – For example – “She told him that (it’s , its ) going to snow up in the Poconos.”

13 FINAL EXAM Deadwood – There will be several sentences on the exam where you will be asked to eliminate redundancies and extra verbiage.

14 FINAL EXAM Deadwood – For example, “I will tell you in this paper that it’s my own very personal opinion that Lady Gaga is Elton John in drag.”

15 FINAL EXAM Deadwood – For example, “Lady Gaga is Elton John in drag.”

16 FINAL EXAM Misplaced Modifiers – You will be asked to rewrite sentences so that the modifiers are in the right place.

17 FINAL EXAM Misplaced Modifiers – For example, “Churning in the Atlantic Ocean, we anxiously watched the weather report for information about the hurricane.”

18 FINAL EXAM Misplaced Modifiers – For example, “We anxiously watched the weather report for information about the hurricane churning in the Atlantic Ocean.”

19 FINAL EXAM Verb Tense Error – You may be asked to rewrite a sentence to avoid shifts in verb tense.

20 FINAL EXAM Verb Tense Error – For example, “He made the coffee and then gives it to his wife.”

21 FINAL EXAM Verb Tense Error – For example, “He made the coffee and then gave it to his wife.”

22 FINAL EXAM Vocabulary – The exam will contain about 25 words from the vocabulary words I have given you. They will be multiple choice questions.

23 FINAL EXAM THE ESSAY – You will be expected to write in class a five-paragraph essay with introduction, thesis, body paragraphs and conclusion. I will let you do it in any format as long as you identify the format.

24 FINAL EXAM The ESSAY – For example, you might want to write a narration about a funny experience at your family reunion. Or you might want to compare and contrast two action movies that you saw recently. It’s up to you, but you will be expected to write it in class.
