PRESENTATIONS, YOU CAN GO TO 9thgradeglobal.weebly.com TO WATCH VIDEOS (project tab, semester 2, part 1). BRING HEADPHONES IN FOR THE VIDEOS; PLEASE BRING IN A CHEAP PAIR. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR HEADPHONES; DO NOT LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED. AFTER EACH ACTIVITY IS COMPLETE, YOU MUST COME SEE MR. SMITH OR MRS. SARNO-ULLO OVER TO CHECK THAT ALL ACTIVITES ARE COMPLETED CORRECTLY, WHICH WILL EARN YOU POINTS. ALL WORKSHEETS ARE TO STAY IN YOUR FOLDER! IF YOU LOSE THEM, WE HAVE NO PROOF OF YOU COMPLETING THE ACITVITY(IES), WHICH MEANS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT.

7 Part 1 – IMPORTANT REMINDERS
If you do not actively read or label the E.I. on the handout, you will be asked to sit back down. If you submit materials last minute and there is no more opportunities to go back and complete active reading and labeling, you will not receive full credit. You must check in regularly. You can not wait until the last few days it is due to submit all materials. There will be minimal time for feedback and for you to fix any errors.

Students falling behind will be required to form a smaller circle so we can assist you and get you back on track. ALL INFORMATION IS ON THE WEBSITE: 9THGRADEGLOBAL.WEEBLY.COM *IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBLITY TO MAKE UP THE WORK. YOU WILL HAVE ABOUT THREE WEEKS TO FINISH THE PROJECT—NO EXTENSIONS!

9 COMPUTERS Check what number computer you choose.
Use firefox, not internet explorer When finished, close out all websites, word documents, etc. Put computer back in the correct number slot and plug into charger. Computers are privilege. If you are caught using them inappropriately, your computer privileges will be revoked. You will be required to complete these activities at home or under our supervision. AFTER YOU COMPLETE PART 1 ACTIVITES, YOU CAN MOVE ON TO PART 2 YOU ARE CHOOSING ONLY TWO CREATIVE TASKS TO COMPLETE. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES! TO EARN FULL CREDIT YOU MUST COMPLETE ALL ASPECTS OF THE TASK ACCURATELY CREATIVELY NEATLY USE THE INFORMATION FROM PART 1 TO HELP YOU YOU MAY USE THE COMPUTER TO COMPLETE THESE TASKS. PLEACE PRINT IN CLASS, AT HOME OR BY THE STATED DUE DATE. AFTER YOU COMPLETE A CREATIVE TASK, CHECK IN WITH MR. SMITH AND MRS. 12 DIRECTIONS FOR PART 3: ESSAY
Task: Extended Essay An enduring issue is an issue that exists across time. It is one that many societies have attempted to address with varying degrees of success. In your essay: Identify and define an enduring issue raised by this set of documents. Using your knowledge of Social Studies and evidence from the documents, argue why the issue you selected is significant and how it has endured across time. Be sure to: Identify the issue based on a historically accurate interpretation of at least FOUR documents. Define the issue using evidence from at least FOUR documents. Argue that this is a significant issue that has endured by showing How the issue has affected people or been affected by people How the issue has continued to be an issue or changed over time Include OUTSIDE INFORMATION from your knowledge of social studies and evidence from the documents.

15 CHECK LIST FOR PART 3: An INTRODUCTION that includes the following:
Your essay should have… An INTRODUCTION that includes the following: General Statement Enduring issue and a definition A sentence that list the documents A thesis statement/claim BODY paragraphs that include a MINIMUM OF 4 DOCUMENTS (You can use more than one document for in a paragraph). Each body paragraph should have the following: Topic sentence: introduces the E.I., document name, and a claim Evidence: Quotes from the document and it paraphrased (explained in your own words). *You can’t just quote direct documents.* You must also explain in your own words to back up your thesis. A CONCLUSION: Thesis statement Summary of body paragraphs Closing sentence

General Statement: EXAMPLE: An enduring issue is a challenge or problem that a society has faced and debated or discussed across time. An enduring issue is one that many societies have attempted to address with varying degrees of success. 
 Enduring issue & definition: EXAMPLE: One enduring issue is technology, which are innovations and inventions that help make life easier for people, places, and societies that are constantly improved and changed over time by future generations. Brief statement of where this issue has been seen in history: EXAMPLE: The enduring issue of technology, such as….. (list the specific inventions) can be seen in the time period of the Renaissance. THESIS STATEMENT that includes the E.I. and an argument (positive, negative, etc.): Technology has impacted these civilizations in a positive way and has improved changed over time for the better

T: Topic Sentence that includes the enduring issue, the general idea of the document, and claim (positive/negative). EXAMPLE: Technology of printing press has impacted people, places, and societies in a positive way. (enduring issue) (general idea of document) (claim) E: IMPORTANT SUMMARY/ FROM THE DOCUMENT Explain the document—*INFORMATION MUST MAKE A CONNECTION TO THE ENDURING ISSUE YOU CHOSE!* (use 2-3 quotes & then explain it in YOUR OWN WORDS in a MINIMUM OF 5 SENTENCES) A: This issue has affected people in a positive/negative (choose the one that matches your thesis) way because (EXPLAIN WHY IT IS GOOD OR BAD FOR THE SOCIETY IN A MINIMUM OF 5 SENTENCES IN YOUR OWN WORDS—YOU SHOULD NOT BE COPYING ANYTHING FROM THE DOCUMENT IN THIS SECTION!) This continued to be an issue because/change over time (CHOOSE THE ONE THAT APPLIES) by MAKE CONNECTIONS TO MODERN DAY AND HOW IT IS THE SAME, DIFFERENT, IMPROVED, ETC. (MINIMUM OF 3 SENTENCES)
