2. Before the prešov
Paleolithic period: The oldest tools and mammoth bones are 28,000 years old. They were found near Delňa .
Bronze age: There were found bronze objects, ceramics and also an iron knife.

3. One day the germanian colonists came to strawberry meadow and decided to set up a new town. The hungarians called it „Epuryes“, later Prešov. The little village has turned to market city with important role, because the Amber road was going through. Prešov has become the important medieval bussines crossroad.
The firts written referece about Prešov wrote Belo IV in He called the city „Epuryes“.
In 1374 thanks to the rights from the king Ludovit I, the town of Presov became a free royal town.
„Eper” in hungarian language means strawberry.

4. Sign of Prešov
The first coat of arms was given by Ladislav V. (Pohrobok) in It was silver-red shield with three red roses at the head of shield. Those days the roses symbolized flowers of strawberry. Over the years coat of arms has many times changed, but the basic theme remained: red and silver colour and flowers of strawberry.

5. Development of prešov
The rising town was prospering. That meant for Prešov the development of building. Many rich decorated bourgeois houses were constructed. Now they became National Historic Landmarks.
In 14. century was the Saint Nicholas Church built. From tower you can see almost whole historic part of the city. It’s an amazing view.

6. Regression of prešov
Prešov was also marked by the natural disasters, plague, by the accidents and its regression was sharpened in the following centuries.
The year 1687 is known like year of Presov massacre
when 24 nobles were executed , because they supported the rebel Imre Thököly (leader of the antiHabsburg rebellions).
That was probably the warning for the other citizens.

7. History of veľký šariš

8. Before veľký šariš
The oldest archeological findings are work tools mostly from silica. They are very simple and primitive. Their age is about – years. Type of people, who made these stone tools was similar to Neanderthals. There were also found some very old mammoth bones.
Veľký Šariš has never become a free royal town
It gained the city rights in the same time as Prešov
The first written reference about Veľký Šariš is from year 1217

9. Šariš castle
Šariš castle formated like a volcano from glowing lava under the surface. Castle courtyard is actually crater. On Šariš hill were people in the past celebrating the oldest religious ceremonies and celebrations
The first building treatments on castle was fortification, later palisades were added
From the first half of 13. century they started with building walls and towers from stone

Šariš castle was in year 1687 destroyed, because of occupation of bandits

12. Gypsies in Veľký šariš
The first written refference about Gypsies in Europe is from year 1100
In 16. century some of castle lords were giving permissions to the Gypsies. If they were craftsmen, smiths or musicians, they could settle down in city. Then the Gypsies were hardworking and skilful. Women were good at tailoring. They were living in 30 houses in the middle of Veľký Šariš
