Project set up under the Council of Europe in 1993
Managed by expert group (currently Swiss, German, Dutch, French, Polish, Swedish, UK, Spanish (Argentinian), Albanian).
Three surveys (1995, 1999, 2003) of crime & criminal justice statistics - collection of both numerical data & definitional material.
Current funding Dutch, UK, French, German, Swiss, UK and EC.

4. European Sourcebook project
Main aspects of surveys
Collection of statistical data based upon official sources.
Collection of metadata from each country and for each statistical series eg offence definitions, counting rules, point of recording.
Quality controlling including arithmetical accuracy, consistency between statistical series and logical sense.

Expert Group - members act as regional correspondents.
National Correspondents (incl Task force members).
Questionnaire in English, French & Russian.

1995 Survey . Published by the Council Of Europe in 1999.
