6 Miscellaneous Announcements
September 2007 Miscellaneous Announcements Warning: Do not leave your laptops unattended! The meeting is not responsible for your unwatched stuff. Individual membership In all IEEE standards meetings, membership is by individual, hence you do not represent a company or organization. Photographs and Recordings No sound recordings are permitted at WG or TG meetings. No photographs allowed without WG Chair permission. Media – Press and Analyst briefings Only the /.15/.18/.19/.22 WG Chair and WG Vice-Chairs are allowed to give verbal statements/interviews to the media on behalf of their respective IEEE working groups Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola

7 September 2007 doc.: IEEE P /2331r4 September 2007 Affiliation It is defined in the IEEE-SA Standards Board Bylaws, as: “An individual is deemed “affiliated” with any individual or entity that has been, or will be, financially or materially supporting that individual’s participation in a particular IEEE standards activity. This includes, but is not limited to, his or her employer and any individual or entity that has or will have, either directly or indirectly, requested, paid for, or otherwise sponsored his or her participation. Revision: Feb 2006 Standards Board Bylaw Openness is defined as the quality of being not restricted to a particular type or category of participants. All meetings involving standards development an all IEEE Sponsor ballots shall be open to all interested parties. Each individual participant in IEEE Standards activities shall disclose his or her affiliations when requested. A person who knows or reasonably should know, that a participant’s disclosure is materially incomplete or incorrect should report that fact to the Secretary of the IEEE-SA Standards Board and the appropriate Sponsors. Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola

8 September 2007 doc.: IEEE P /2331r4 September 2007 Affiliation Policy Requirement to declare affiliation at all standards development meetings and recorded in the minutes Affiliation not necessarily same as employer Declaration requirement may be familiar to some 802 WGs, though WG declaration process may evolve 11. What if I refuse to disclose my affiliation? As outlined in IEEE-SA governance documents, you will lose certain rights. In a working group where voting rights are gained through attendance, no attendance credit will be granted if affiliation isn’t declared. Similarly, voting rights are to be removed if affiliation isn’t declared. Affiliation declaration will be added to Sponsor ballot Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola

11 MAC Subgroup Report Work done 12 September 2007
Discussed the Mesh DTIM Interval, i.e. CID 82 and 4153.  Some suggested defining the Mesh DTIM Interval in section   Others suggested removing the mesh DTIM interval, which requires more changes to the draft.  Defer until the synchronization schemes have been finalized. Discussed the Designated Beacon Broadcast (DBB).  Suggested removing the feature.  Need to double check which sections should be removed. Discussion on fixing the discrepancies between the frame format section and the MAC section regarding mesh beacon and BSS beacon, i.e. document /r2.  The group achieved consensus on transmitting two beacons separately. Resolved 13 comments in the Power Save section Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola

15 MAC Subgroup Report Work done 13 September 2007 Summary Thus Far
Resolved 11 comments in the Power Save section Discussed one synchronization scheme that proposes to have a Profile TSF offset in the beacon and to have synchronization profile exchange after the peer link is set up.  An MP’s own TSF time plus the Profile TSF offset equals a common mesh TSF time.  Discussed whether it is necessary to have a common mesh TSF time.  A synchronization profile IE and a synchronization profile parameter set field are defined.  Suggested removing “DTIM length” and “ATIM window” from the synchronization profile parameter set field because the ATIM window is already included in the beacon and the mesh DTIM Interval may either be removed or be included in the beacon. Summary Thus Far Total 60 comments resolved during the conference calls before this ad hoc and at this ad hoc: 23 accept, 15 counter, and 22 rejected Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola

17 MAC Subgroup Report Work done 14 September 2007 September 2007
Presentation on issues related to the common mesh TSF time.  Presented a peer link synchronization mode that does not require a common TSF time that is shared by all MPs in the mesh network.  Instead, every MP keeps time offsets between its own TSF and the TSF time of its peer MPs.  Power save and MDA still work without the common mesh TSF.  Suggested defining a synchronization mode and using peer link synchronization mode as the default mode.  Comments: a vendor specific scheme is not suitable for a home environment where electronics from different CE vendors have to interoperate. Presentation on “Deep sleep mode”.  An MP only wakes up during its own beacon and the ATIM window.  Its peer MPs that have packets destined for this MP will send the unicast packets to the MP.  Comments: some calculation or simulation to show the improvements would be helpful.  Need up to date data sheets. Donald Eastlake 3rd, Motorola
