I. Introduction
This presentation is built around the proposed structure and contents of the pilot Passenger Mobility Survey as presented in the current draft guidelines (dated 10/12/2014)
Three model questionnaires are proposed as part of the pilot survey:
Household information
Individual mobility
Country mobility

Household questionnaire
Covered in Annex 2 of the guidelines
General information on household composition, vehicle availability and technical properties
To be completed by the individual respondent
Individual mobility questionnaire
Covered in Annex 3 of the guidelines
Mobility information on per-trip basis (discussion item: trip definition)
1-5 weekdays, 1 weekend day
Country mobility questionnaire
Covered in Annex 1 of the guidelines
Aggregated country mobility info based on individual responses (+ other sources)
To be completed by representative of country (statistics department)

5. Part 1: Household questionnaire
Part of the individual questionnaire to be sent out to selected sample of the population
Consists of 5 sections:
Introduction
General background information to be provided by individual countries (why, who, how, where,…+ data protection)
Household information
Demographic info (age, gender, nationality, education, occupation)
Guidelines suggest max 6 persons per household, but more is possible
Available mobility options
Amount of vehicles and Public Transport passes
Technical properties of available vehicles
Primarily passenger cars, other vehicles can also be covered (e.g. motor cycles)
Brand, type, engine size, year of purchase, year of construction, type of ownership, annual mileage, current mileage, fuel type
Additional household info
Other relevant info, including housing type, available parking space, income, etc.
It is proposed to have a copy of the Guidelines on hand to go over each of the aspects

6. Part 2: Individual mobility questionnaire
Part of the individual questionnaire to be sent out to selected sample of the population
Consists of 5 sections:
Introduction
General information to be provided by individual countries (why, who, how, where,…+ data protection)
Respondent information
Either copied from household questionnaire (when available) or similar demographic info
Data collection for weekdays
Description per trip: origin, destination, purpose, start and end time, stages, companions
Description per stage: transport mode, time, distance
Data collection for weekend day
Same info
Additional individual mobility info
Other relevant info, including frequency of modal use, PT use, drivers licence,etc.
It is proposed to have a copy of the Guidelines on hand to go over each of the aspects

7. Part 3: Country mobility questionnaire
Questionnaire to be completed by country representatives (statistics department) based on individual survey responses
Consists of 3 sections:
Info on data collection methods
Survey name, time, periodicity, method of collection, method of reporting, sampling frame, sampling method, size, response rate, costs, future evolution, etc.
Key concepts, definitions and nomenclatures applied in the NTS
Agreement or not with and availability of proposed general conceptual definitions and breakdowns (transport mode, main mode, stage, trip, purpose, other)
Agreement or not with and availability of proposed specific conceptual definitions and breakdowns (pkm, vkm, occupancy, trip time, origin, destination, distance, short/medium/long distance, socio-demographic parameters, general and technical vehicle parameters)
Available national passenger mobility indicators
Detailed data collection of harmonised set of indicators, as defined in Guidelines, split by urban/rural and short/medium/long distance

8. III. Operational aspects of implementing the Pilot PM survey
Is the model questionnaire fit for purpose?
Is it clear what is expected in terms of indicators to be compiled?
Are all definitions clear and unambiguous enough to be applied?
Are all recommendations clear and feasible to apply?
Will the variables and breakdowns included in the model questionnaire make it possible to compile the requested indicators?
Is there need for additional explanations or examples?
Is anything crucial missing?
