2 General Rules Ask Before Doing Be supervised at all times
Notify teacher of injury, spill, or equipment damage No admittance in the stockroom NO HORSEPLAY!

17 General Stuff ALWAYS wash your hands with soap and water when we are done with lab—NOT HAND SANITIZER Keep your hands away from your face You are responsible for washing your glassware, counter and other equipment Never eat, drink, or chew gum in the lab area Do not put paper, solids, or other trash in the sink

18 Working with Glassware
Check for chips and cracks Clean and air dry Do not handle broken glass Handle glass tubing (including thermometers) with care Put glassware on table before pouring Do not carry reagent bottles to workstation Do not place hot glass on the counter

19 Heating in Lab Handle equipment with special tongs
Crucible Beaker Test tube Keep hot pad out and available for the entire lab Nothing goes on the hot plate or in the flame except what is directed in lab

20 Burner Safety Extinguish flames before disassembling burner
Do not leave flame unattended Do not reach over burner or heated materials Keep all combustibles away from the flames

21 Other Heating instructions
Heat only in Pyrex or Kimax Glass Allow materials to cool before handling Do not put hot materials on the counter Do not cool glass with water Point test tubes away from people when heating

22 Working with chemicals
Chemical no no’s Na, Ca, Hg, Mg Never mix chemicals unless directed Never taste chemicals Waft aromas Never add water to acid Flush chemical spills with water unless otherwise directed
