11 Q1. When someone has done something wrong they deserve opportunities and support to put it right.

12

13 Q1. Pupil comments (P7) Middle Agree
Something could be happening at home that is affecting there behaviour and they may be worried Everyone deserves a second chance but it depends on how severe People should be able to put things right if they do wrong If you punish them they will just do it again because you are not giving them a second chance and they think what’s the point Not fair not to not give a second chance  It is okay to give people opportunities but there has to be a point where you say no more Depends on the level of what they are doing

14 Q2. Punishment is a deterrent which is effective in changing people’s behaviour

15

16 Pupil comments Disagree Middle
Depends on the level of offense and punishment It may stop them for one thing but they will keep doing other stuff Might stop them, or might terrorise them (say it was a good kid) Works on P1’s but in P7 it’s not your biggest worry if you get a yellow card or miss your break Depends on the person Once you have been punished you forget about it and keep doing it again Attitudes get worse with punishment not better Don’t think it works …lots of proof eg) signs all round shops warning shoplifters will be prosecuted but lots of people in jail for shop lifting Some people don’t change

17 Q3. It’s okay to punish or exclude challenging children for the sake of the rest of the class

18

19 Pupil comments Agree Middle
More agree , but sometimes they might behave if it is their favourite task and should have the opportunities to do these Pretty much agree but I think it is a bit too much to exclude and should always be given a second chance More disagree as it depends on the level of disruption and whether they are disrupting most of the class Even disruptive people need to learn so if you kick them out of class you stop them learning Yes because you are at school to learn not be disruptive
