1 Roles and Accomplishments of the Early Leaders – 1.17.18

2 George Washington Elected 1st president after serving as the Commander of the Continental Army. He regularly consulted the Cabinet he created. Served two terms. He was trusted to not take to much power for the new government.

3 John Adams Served on the Continental Congress committee that drafted the Declaration of Independence. Served as foreign minister that help create alliances during the war and the Peace Treaty of 1783 that ended the war. Elected the first Vice President and served with George Washington. Later became the Second President.

4 Thomas Jefferson Author of the Declaration of Independence.
Governor of Virginia during the war. Served as a Minister to France. Washington named him Secretary of State. Leader of the Democratic-Republican party. Third President

5 Alexander Hamilton Secretary of Treasury.
Proposed a series of laws that improved the financial standing of the new country. Present day capital (Washington D.C.) Leader of the Federalist Party.

6 John Marshall Appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by President Adams. Strengthened the role of the Supreme Court in the federal government. (review laws and determine if they are constitutional) Federalist (strengthen the government)

7 James Madison Major author of the Constitution.
Served in the first United States Congress and wrote amendments for the Bill of Rights. Led the Democratic- Republican Party Fourth President
