1 Objective: Describe the steps of Translation
S4: The Central Dogma E2: Translation Objective: Describe the steps of Translation Do this: Grab the paper and follow the instructions for Trascription (you have 15 minutes)

2 I. TRANSLATION

3 A. Amino acids are coded by mRNA base sequences
1. Translation converts mRNA messages into proteins. 2. A codon is a sequence of three nucleotides that codes for an amino acid. codon for methionine (Met) leucine (Leu)

4 3. The genetic code matches each codon to its amino acid.
The genetic code matches each RNA codon with its amino acid or function.

5 B. Amino acids are linked to become a protein
1. An anticodon is a set of three nucleotides that is complementary to an mRNA codon. 2. An anticodon is carried by a tRNA.

6 3. Steps: mRNA enters a ribosome. A complementary tRNA molecule binds to the exposed codon, bringing its amino acid.

7 The ribosome forms a bond between amino acids.
Once the stop codon is reached, the ribosome releases the amino acid chain.

8 After the amino acid chain is released, it can be folded into the final protein.
