1 Today Is Going To Be AMAZING!!!
Welcome Everyone Today Is Going To Be AMAZING!!!

2 Introduction Name: Gwendolyn Pigott Position: Asst. Principal of Discipline School: Bogalusa High / Middle School (Washington Parish)

3 Presentation Title: What The Watt???!!!

4 40 Watt, 60 Watt, 75 Watt or 100 Watt Think about it...

5 The Big Question: In your classroom...
What Watt R U?

6 Our Purpose: Today we are going to revisit some of the ever-evolving elements of “Classroom Management” & its correlation to the “Louisiana Teacher Compass Evaluation Rubric”, using the 50 States & their Capital Cities.

7 Student Learning Target / SLT:
Setting Outcomes Student Learning Target / SLT: The students will learn how to accurately identify the capital city of each of the 50 states, in the United States of America. Objectives: To recognize the 50 states and their capital cities by their cardinal positions, according to the compass rose, on a map. To introduce a variety of effective strategies that will increase student comprehension, knowledge and achievement.

8 *LOUISIANA TEACHER Performance Evaluation Rubric
*Domain 2: The Classroom Environment *2c: Managing Classroom Procedures

9 LOUISIANA TEACHER Performance Evaluation Rubric(cont.)
* Ineffective (40 Watt): • Students not working with the teachers are disruptive to class. • There are no established procedures for distributing and collecting materials. • Procedures for other activities are confused or chaotic. *Effective Emerging (60 Watt) : *Small groups are only partially engaged while not working directly with the teacher. • Procedures for transitions, and distribution/collection of materials seem to have been established, but their operation is rough. • Classroom routines function unevenly.

10 LOUISIANA TEACHER Performance Evaluation Rubric(cont.)
*Effective Proficient (75 Watt): • The students are productively engaged during small group work. • Transitions between large and small group activities are smooth • Routines for distribution and collection of materials and supplies work efficiently * Classroom routines function smoothly. *Highly Effective (100 Watt): (In addition to the characteristics of “proficient,” ) • Students take the initiative with their classmates to ensure that their time is used productively. • Students themselves ensure that transitions and other routines are accomplished smoothly. • Students take initiative in distributing and collecting materials efficiently.

11 Analyze the “Scenario” (LDOE Compass Rubric)
*Scenario #1 ( 40 Watt): ***Whole group instruction of 25 of the 50 states and their capital cities. (materials - worksheet pt.1) *Scenario #2 ( 60 Watt): ***Whole to small group instruction of 25 of the 50 states and their capital cities. (materials - worksheet pt.2)

12 Analyze the “Scenario” (LDOE Compass Rubric)
*Scenario #3 ( 75 Watt): ***Small group: 50 states and their capital cities using the concentric (inside/outside) circle. (materials - flashcards) *Scenario #4 ( Watt): ***Student run/choice: 50 states and their capital cities . (materials - jigsaw puzzles)

13 Reflections from Participants/Presenter
Classroom procedures and routines are essential for a productive classroom climate. Adding “rigor” makes an activity/lesson challenging & eliminates opportunities for disruptions. Students are more motivated to learn, when given choices :)
