RCACF Flypaper The Official Monthly Newsletter
Remote Control Assoc of Central Florida December, 2016 Cover photo: Christmas decorations Can you believe it? Christmas is almost upon us as the end of another spectacular year is coming to a close. Many astonishing memories and events have transpired leading up to this finality. Typically this time of year is bustling with traffic as everyone ventures out to purchase that little something for someone special. The restaurants are packed and parking lots filled to the max. This is a good indication that our economy isn't doing that bad at all. It is amazing how many large ticket items are being purchased like there is no tomorrow. Stores such as Walmart, Kmart, and Best Buy have people lined up around the block for all those Christmas holiday specials. It only comes once a year, so get out and take part in this joyous time of year. Tell someone you love them and take them to dinner. Spend an evening driving around the neighborhood to view some of the spectacular decorations. Sharing pleasantries can be heart felt and contagious.

The new camera is just the latest item to be replaced. It’s amazing how many people I heard from that use the camera to give a check of the field for wind conditions, how busy it might be and weather conditions. If you are not familiar with this camera, it’s located on the home page of just click on the picture on the right side.

Club Family Picnic: Was held on Saturday, November 19th
Club Family Picnic: Was held on Saturday, November 19th. We had 143 members and family attend. The Caterer was about a half hour late in getting the food to us but, when it arrived everyone made a bee-line to the Club House. Bo Swope, Charlie Sutyak, Al Yager, Jerry Okeefe, Hank & Betty Field all pitched in getting the food ready and serving it to the hungry members and family. Our half time entertainment was provided by many of our members and Greg Foushi, Bill Freeland and Al Ward flying their jets and T-28 airplanes. Thanks, guys, you did a great job! We also want to thank the weather man who provided us with a great day for a picnic. 80 degrees and sunny! Work Party Reward: Your Club Board Members have approved a reward program for all members that participate in our monthly work parties. Starting in January 2017, we will be keeping a record of members that help with the duties of the work party. If a member serves on the work party six times during the 12-month calendar, they will get a reduction of $50.00 off their next year’s dues! We want all those members to know that we appreciate their dedication to our club and keeping our flying field looking it’s best! Hopefully, this reward program will be our thanks to those members that help. Membership Renewal: is in full swing. We want to thank all the members and wives that brought the cakes, cookies, candy, etc.
Many of us loved the Coconut Cake made by Humberto Pomales’s wife Madeline and the Apple Cake made by Ken Feland’s wife Marjorie. Many members wanted the recipes and here is one. Apple Cake - (Marjorie Feland) 2 cup sugar 1-1/2 cup cooking oil (vegetable or canola) & (yes, 1-1/2 cups) 2 teaspoon vanilla 2 eggs, well beaten juice of 1 lemon 1 teaspoon salt 3 cups all purpose flour 1-1/4 teaspoon soda 3 cups peeled chopped tart apples (Granny Smith- 3 of them) 1-1/2 – 2 cups chopped pecans Combine sugar, oil, vanilla, eggs, lemon juice & salt. Beat well. Mix flour & soda, add to first mixture and beat well again. Add apples, and pecans, mix well. The batter at this point will be very thick; you may need to mix by hand. Spoon batter into greased & floured ( I use Baker’s Joy spray) 10” tube pan. Bake at 325 for 1-1/2 hrs. (90 minutes) or until done. After cake has baked, and after making the “Topping”, pour over the hot cake in pan. I usually start making the “topping” with 10 minutes left on the timer until cake will be done. Let cake cool for 45 min to an hour and then turn it over onto a cake plate. The pan should be easy to remove from the cake, but if you have a problem, let it sit a little longer upside down. Topping 1 cup brown sugar ¼ cup milk 1 stick margarine or butter Combine all ingredients, bring to boil & cook 2-1/2 minutes. Pour over hot cake in pan. Let cake set in pan until cool.

Next general club meeting – December 10th 10AM
Michael Vivona Webmaster/Chief Editor Year In Review November is over and we enter into the last month of It has been quite a year to reminisce. Let’s take a look back and evaluate some of the points of interest. The Cavaliers won the NBA championship. They took the win during the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors 4 games to 3. Joaquín Guzmán, (also known as “El Chapo” widely regarded as the world's most powerful drug trafficker, is recaptured following his escape from a maximum security prison. A crazy little mosquitos came into our lives carrying the dreaded Zika virus. Over in Brittan, the people vote to exit the European Union. The 2016 Summer Olympics are held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We lost some very unforgettable personalities this year. On that list includes Fidel Castro. He was a political revolutionary who governed the Republic of Cuba for 47 years as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 then as President till Some say he was a brutal dictator, others say he was defender of the people. On the other end of the spectrum is the great Arnold Palmer. He won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and the circuit now known as PGA Tour Champions, nicknamed The King. Patty Duke dies at the age of 70. If that doesn’t make you feel old, nothing will. The singer songwriter “Prince” dies of who knows what. The worldwide figure “Cassius Clay”, or better know by his Muslim name “Muhamad Ali” passed away. He was widely regarded as one of the most significant and celebrated sports figures of the 20th century. I know Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones looks like he is dead, but somehow he is still playing the guitar. I think all the alcohol has preserved his organs. And finally Gene Wilder, the remarkably funny man who wrote, starred in and directed so many comedy films left us. And last, the American people elect a new President. Mr Donald J Trump. I’m sure many people will be watching closely to see if he keeps even some of his promises or follows in the footsteps of many before him and changes his tune once he takes over the Presidency. Time will only tell. Next general club meeting – December 10th 10AM R C A F A great big THANK YOU to everyone who supports our great club. We could not do it without your continued help. Have a wonderful day… Come Fly With Us
