5 SAT SCHOOL DAY AT MHS MHS is offering an opportunity for senior students to take the SAT without essay during the school day. Wednesday, October 10th Registration is available through a Google form online. Deadline to sign up is Friday, September 7, 2018 at 4:00 pm. Payment of $47.50 is due to the Attendance Office by Friday, September 7, 2018.

6 ACT/SAT Scores When registering to take a test, be sure to request that your scores be sent to MHS. Then they will be included on your transcript to colleges. Also take advantage of sending your scores to 4 colleges for FREE when registering to test. After receiving your scores, there is a fee to have them sent. Colleges will always look at the highest test score they receive from an applicant so it does not hurt to send all scores.

Dec Oct 27 Feb Mar 2 Apr 6 Letter/ will go out to Seniors first for camps offered through December. Juniors will be included in the spring. MHS will have 25 spaces per camp. Cost is $35 for each camp and a student may register once for each type of camp.

8 COLLEGE VISITS Seniors are allowed two college visit days. Plan ahead:
Make appointment with Admissions office. You may also want to set up an appointment with Financial Aid, Housing, Academic Advisor. Pick up a College Day form from the MHS Attendance office BEFORE you go. Bring back something from the college stating that you visited. Turn it in to MHS Attendance office AFTER you return.

COLLEGE NIGHT Ellis County College Fair Wednesday, September 19 6:00-8:00 pm Waxahachie Civic Center Choose the TACRao option that has the Sept. 19, 2018 date.

10 COLLEGE APPLICATIONS Most applications will be electronic (ApplyTexas.org) Send ACT/SAT scores Order a transcript – allow several days Include appropriate application fees or fee waivers Watch deadlines carefully!!!

11 TRANSCRIPTS Transcripts must be requested from Mrs. Oliver using a Transcript Request Form Parent signature is required for students under 18. Students 18 or older must request their own transcript (parents may not request) Allow several days for processing, especially during peak times Electronic transmission is preferred, however, if a paper copy is requested, DO NOT open it Final transcripts are sent in the summer following graduation. Students must fill out a Final Transcript Request Form

12 LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Most college applications do not require letters, they are more often required for scholarships. When a letter of recommendation is needed: Ask someone who knows you well (teacher, coach, counselor, employer) Give the recommender at least THREE WEEKS notice Fill out a Student Info form (available in the counseling office) Let the recommender know the outcome (thank you note)

13 FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) fafsa.ed.gov FAFSA will be available online starting October 1, 2018 FAFSA Presentation at MISD Administration Board Room on September 25 at 5:30 pm. Scholarships Check with individual colleges Fastweb (fastweb.com) and other free online scholarship search sites MHS Counseling Website/Mrs. Oliver (misd.gs/mhs)

14 MORE ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS
Local scholarships (Midlothian, Ellis County) will be listed on the Counselor page of the MHS website. All instructions are listed as well as deadlines. Most of these are posted starting in January, but keep an eye out for a few prior to that. National scholarships are also listed on the same website throughout the year. Students receiving scholarships will be recognized at Scholarship Night, May 21. Watch for information in the spring from Mrs. Oliver about how to get your scholarship information to her.

15 ATHLETES If you plan to participate in sports at the Division I or II collegiate level: Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center (eligibilitycenter.org) You will need to send a transcript from every high school you have attended For more info: ncaa.org/playcollegesports
