Psalm 5:11 But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

Jonah Ran Away Jonah 1 2Ki 14:23 ¶ In the fifteenth year of Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, became king in Samaria, and reigned forty-one years. 2Ki 14:25 He restored the border of Israel from the entrance of Hamath as far as the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of the LORD, the God of Israel, which He spoke through His servant Jonah the son of Amittai, the prophet, who was of Gath-hepher.

Why Wouldn’t He Do It? Jonah saw the people of Nineveh as enemies - He did NOT want them to receive mercy - Perhaps he despised Gentiles - Perhaps he saw what they would do Hosea 10:6-7 2 Kings 8:11-12 Ho 10:6 The thing itself will be carried to Assyria As tribute to King Jareb; Ephraim will be seized with shame And Israel will be ashamed of its own counsel. 7 Samaria will be cut off with her king Like a stick on the surface of the water. 2Ki 8:11 He fixed his gaze steadily on him until he was ashamed, and the man of God wept. 12 Hazael said, "Why does my lord weep?" Then he answered, "Because I know the evil that you will do to the sons of Israel: their strongholds you will set on fire, and their young men you will kill with the sword, and their little ones you will dash in pieces, and their women with child you will rip up."

I Won’t Do It! God called men to act but: Moses saw only his failings (Ex. 4) - Self doubt Saul ran off and hid in the baggage (1 Sam. 10) - Criticisms Wedding guests w/ other things to do (Mt. 22) - Other priorities Ex 4:13 But he said, "O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send." 14 So the anger of the LORD was kindled against Moses, and He said: "Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. 1Sa 10:22 Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, "Has the man come here yet?" And the LORD answered, "There he is, hidden among the equipment. Mt 22:5 "But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.

Lessons God calls us today to His kingdom - To serve Him - To honor and glorify Him - To sacrifice to Him God calls us to go to the world Evangelists are also called preachers and ministers. An archaic word is Parson, from latin “Persona” of the church Many churches today call preachers Pastors; this is NOT correct, as Pastors are elders (Acts 20:17)

Lessons You cannot escape God - No where can you flee - God reveals our iniquities You must be able to love your enemies - Matthew 5:43-48 Tarshish was possible Spain, the other end of the world Mt 5:43 "You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.' 44 "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 "For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 "If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? 48 "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
