1 ICT In Education

2 What is ICT? Information Communication Technology refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications. It is similar to IT (Information Technology) but it focuses primarily on communication technology. Equipment ranges from internet, wireless networks, iPads and cameras.

3 ICT BREAKDOWN INPUT SOURCE OUTPUT SOURCE

4 What do you see?

5 1 2 The previous slide compares two teaching settings
1: Classroom : Sports Hall In the classroom you can see a variety of ICT that is available. The sports hall however has no ICT equipment visible. Of course you are probably concerned about the safety of your students and of the ICT equipment in the hall, but to be fair there are safety concerns no matter what setting you are in. Incidents and accidents can occur in all environments, to help avoid this from happening preventive measures should be enforced. 1 2

6 Here’s what I think? I believe ICT should be available to the Physical Education Department of the School. An iPad could make a huge difference to teachers and students adding a new dimension to the teaching/learning experience. The iPad can allow teachers to show students videos and images, take photographs and videos of in class performances and allowing the use applications to excite and engage the students of today. As a teacher be willing to make creative suggestions to receive additional equipment. Suggest sharing an iPad with another department in the school that would also benefit from the purchase. Compromise, think outside the box, preach what you are aiming to achieve, be Creative!!

7 The next 4 slides will introduce you to 4 applications that I found and I think would benefit both students and teachers in Physical Education lessons.

8 The Nintendo Wii Just Dance
If you are finding it difficult to engage your students in a dance lesson why not use the Wii to excite the students on learning dance moves to popular songs. “Just Dance” a popular game on the Wii, has many varied levels to suit majority age groups. P.E. halls have large blank walls perfect for projecting a large image onto allowing all the class to see. The Nintendo Wii Just Dance I know you are probably thinking “What school has a Wii?”. As it turns out they are not so expensive a quick glance on eBay and they can be purchased for less than €50. Alternatively send out a to parents asking if there is one lying about in an antic? Someone might donate it towards the school? Who knows?

9 GIANT SCOREBOARD (iPhone) SCOREBOARD (Android)
Pro’s : Similar apps available on both android and apple devices It’s FREE always a bonus! Simple and effective Built in Timer meaning no arguments on time. Could possibly be projected onto wall of the sports hall if indoors? It is exactly what the name suggests, a scoreboard! Con’s: The only thing that would worry me is that the device could get broken if held near the action. Not something I want to report to principal!

10 Let your students analyse each other
Let your students analyse each other. This is a great tool if you have students who can not participate due to injury. It allows an element of peer teaching to occur! Coaches Eye Simple app created to record videos of players, athletes and students while participating in a sport/activity. The video recorded can be played back in slow motion, paused and edited. Still images can also be taken from the video and edited. Cons: This app can only be used on iPhone or iPad and costs €4.99

11 Honestly, I was annoyed with myself when I found this app
Honestly, I was annoyed with myself when I found this app. The person who created it is charging a small fortune of 99c to download. Why didn’t I think of that? 100 downloads almost a hundred euro. Creative! Team Shake 6 steps Explaining the app Are you finding that your students are now coping on to your “fool proof” method of picking teams? Well the solution is here Team Shake 2 1 1 1 3 3 2 2

12 How are these tools aiding the learning Process?
Questions we must ask ourselves as teachers when using ICT? Are the students gaining new skills or progressing further because of these being involved? Do the students like using technology in their physical education class? How are these tools aiding the learning Process? If the answer is no, simply stop using the app! Is this app really necessary?

13 ICT is changing the way we live our lives everyday, we are surrounded by it so why not try to incorporate it into a lesson. Inclusion of ICT does not require the latest hi-tech equipment, use what resources you may already have that you are not aware of, be creative when designing a lesson. Remember, if the lesson doesn’t go to plan don’t worry, life is about learning and we learn from experience!! Take Home Message!
