1 Essay 2 project Samples: likes and dislikes
Professor Kerfoot GMU Engh 302-b

2 Reminders for essay 2 Remember, there are a number of ways you can approach this project. First, you need to determine what your purpose is and who your audience will be. These two components will determine your genre, tone, format, organization, and the kinds of information you display (and where you display it). For example, is this a company website where your audience is potential customers? Is it a blog about your area of expertise (marketing, management, advertising, etc.) and your audience would be other people interested in learning the ins and outs of that field? You could also build a reference website for high school students interested in business, or a friend in your major. Or is it something else? Be creative, and choose something that interests you.

3 Ad global company website
Design: We liked the top navigation, which made it easy to move around the site. Many of you felt this home page was too “busy,” and that the red color was a little overwhelming. Font is outdated. Content: Mission statement is pretty sparse, and the language is vague (not to mention it doesn’t seem to have been proofread).

4 Ad global web site con’t.
Design: On this page, the theme colors changed, which was confusing. Font is a little hard to read. Content: We didn’t think it made sense to put GMU classes someone may want to take if they’re a business major considering this is a company web site selling their services.

5 LSV DNS SECURITY CONSULTANCY web site
Design: Top navigation is good and lets us move around the web site easily. We did think it looked cleaner and more polished than Ad Global. We didn’t all realize that the logo was a locker. Some thought the image (man in a suit) connoted another kind of business. Maybe a lock or a computer would have made more sense. Content: Company name is a little wordy. Opening paragraph is wordy and doesn’t project a clear message.

6 LSV DNS Continued Design:
Theme colors and font stay the same so there is good cohesion. Large headings and clear sections make it easy to read/scan. Content: It fulfills the requirements of researching future trends of the industry, which are also relevant to the customer because it proves security services are necessary with all the hackers nowadays. Provides links so customers (and the professor!) can click for more information. We didn’t think the next section (Works Cited) really belonged on this kind of web site. It would be better as a separate page ed to the professor.

7 Discipline analysis personal reference page http://disciplineanalysiseconomics.blogspot.com/
Design: The colors/background are a little dark, but it’s easy to read. No section headers which makes it a little hard to navigate since all the text is on the same page. Content: Instead of a company web site, this person basically checked off the criteria of the prompt as he/she went along, and made a reference web site. The audience for this could be yourself, a friend, other students in your major, etc. Instead of selling a product/service, it is more like an essay within a website. This student hits all the marks and includes everything asked of them, which is relevant to his/her audience because it’s not for public consumption.

8 Health discipline analysis personal reference page
Design: Image is relevant to the topic. Top menu makes it easy to navigate through the site. Font is a little hard to read. Content: This site is very thorough and hits everything on the required list. Seems well-researched and sections are organized clearly.

9 Health discipline analysis personal reference page cont’d
Design: Headings and sub-headings are clear. Use of bullets make the section easy to digest. Content: An example of the conventions of this particular field of study (as per the prompt).
