Landlord owns a building. Wants to lease office space. Wants SHORT lease length. Wants LARGE security deposit Tenant runs a business, wants to lease an office space. Wants LONG lease length (high-ball offer 5 years). Wants SMALL security deposit Compromise on middle point for lease length. But only a tentative agreement on that Five issues to negotiate. 13 Why use VR to teach negotiation?
Observing negotiations are helpful to learners ‘see before do’ Access to actual negotiations is next to impossible Enabling students to have an experience ‘one step removed’ from reality Safe learning environment VR as a supplementary tool Better than traditional video Immersive &/or non-immersive Better captures nonverbal nuances Overlays don’t disrupt field of vision Create the illusion of reality Research on experiential and observational learning has shown that excellent way to teach negotiation. I want It all started with a little conversation with Gerry, our Business School IT manager – mentioned we’re getting some VR equipment in the School. That was way back in Thought ‘how the hell can I use VR to teach organisational behaviour and negotiation?’. Nothing came to mind, until Negotiation is an interpersonal process Enabling students to have an experience ‘one step removed’ from reality Access to actual negotiations is next to impossible Scalable: Safe learning environment Observing negotiations are helpful to learners VR as a supplementary tool to assist learning Other methods in Why better than just a normal video? Immersive Control of viewing ‘feels like you’re in the room with the negotiators’ Can capture the interpersonal/emotional components of the negotiation better’ Points schedule overlay image does not interfere with observing negotiation

14 Development principles
