5 A couple of key Wellness Policy Concepts
Schools will provide nutrition education and physical education to foster lifelong habits of healthy eating and physical activity… The school district will engage students, parents, teachers, food service professionals, and the community in nutrition and physical activity education and policies. All students in grades K-12 will have opportunities, support, and encouragement to learn about the benefits of nutrition & being physically active on a regular basis.

Research shows that … Over the past three decades… the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children aged 2-5 years & adolescents between years old... It has more than tripled for children between the ages of 6-11 years old. 1 in 3 children born in 2000, and half of all children of color, are expected to develop type 2 diabetes during their lifetime.
