3 A FEW WORDS ABOUT POLAND
area – sq. km, population – over 38 million more than 1000 years of difficult and unusual history largest cities: Warsaw (capital), Kraków, Łódź... Katowice variety: sea, lakes, mountains, plains, desert... 14 milion tourists visit Poland every year (14th place in the world) 7 neighoubouring countries, wide communication system 3

apx inhabitants first established in the 13th century “little Vienna” – Viennese architecture picturesque location – mountains close to Czech Republic and Slovakia within the same distance of: Warsaw, Vienna and Prague many cultural events, music festivals 4

The city is interested itself both by location and cultural importance: The Bielsko-Biała Museum, Castle of the Sułkowski princes Other vintage places are Bielsko-Biała City Hall (built in 1897) Bielsko- Biała Central Railway Station (built in 1888) etc Ancient churches Szyndzielnia mountain located within the city borders and the Szyndzielnia Cable Car and Dębowiec ski slope 5

Bolek i Lolek - statue Two Polish cartoon characters, which were famous in Poland, England, Europe and Soviet as well as Post- Soviet countries. Simply and nice series about friends, who were getting involve into funny adventures and outdoor activities. Reksio - statue Cartoon about adventures of dog and its friends. It was quite famous in the Eastern Bloc countries. 6

7 UNIVERSITY OF BIELSKO-BIALA
founded in October 2001 as an independent governmental academic institution previously, science 1969, it had been a branch of Technical University of Lodz (Politechnika Łódzka) main education areas long established the machine-design, electrical and textile industries (traditional for the region) also: philologies, pedagogy, sociology, management, nursing academic staff: about 400 (with 250 professors and doctors) students: about at five faculties 7
