2 “Imagine there’s been a massive storm and flood
“Imagine there’s been a massive storm and flood. It’s left your home, neighbourhood, and school flooded and many buildings could collapse. The water damage has cut off the electricity supply and your family only has enough food to last 1 to 2 days. It is difficult to get around as the roads are flooded or covered in metres of mud an sewage left by landslides and sewer overflows. Trees have fallen on the train lines around the city. Parts of Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, London, Newcastle as well as Somerset, Norfolk and Cumbria are all completely flooded, including the Houses of Parliament.” Prompts: What would be your plan of action? If you plan to form a group, how many people do you want in the group? Where might have food? Would you stay in your area and wait for the government’s response or try to leave straightaway? If latter -> prompt: a large majority of your area is flooded, how would you get around this? Someone in your group has an infected leg and is bleeding profusely, would it be worthwhile to have them join you or should they be left behind? Would you attempt to communicate with friends and family in farther areas? How would you ration the food? How would you ensure it gets rationed fairly? What if some people are more hungry than others?

3 “Now imagine that you weren’t at home with your family when this happened. You are alone.”
Prompts: What’s the first thing you would do? Where would you go? Would you stay alone or try to find companions? Why? What if a young child approached you, asking if they could stay with you… Would you let them? Would you feel empowered or burdened by their presence?

4 “You have arrived in a safe place but you don’t speak the language
“You have arrived in a safe place but you don’t speak the language. You have found a place to stay with your aunt and uncle. They arrived two months before you and used their savings to rent a two bedroom house for themselves and their three children. Your mum is sick from the journey. She didn’t want to make a fuss but is now in a lot of pain. What do you do?” Prompts: What would be your priority? Why? How would you tackle the language barrier? How would you sort out the situation with your mum? Bear in mind: medical costs, language barrier, transportation etc. How would you organise the sleeping situation? How long would you feel comfortable staying with your aunt and uncle?

5 “It’s two years later. The situation at home has now improved
“It’s two years later. The situation at home has now improved. Some people are talking about going home. Are you going to stay or go?” Prompts: Why would you stay/go? Additional information: the economy of your host country has suffered severely following the crisis, would you still want to return? Why? Upon return, you discover a family has been inhabiting your family’s home for two years since the crisis… What would you do? Tell them to leave? How would you go about proving it’s your home? Would you allow them to stay?
