1 HIGHER PE 18/8/14

2 Cycle of Analysis INVESTIGATE ANALYSE REVIEW DEVELOP

3 INVESTIGATE Why do we gather information?
It provides objective, accurate and reliable information about the performer in relation to the specific demands of the activity Identifies individual strengths and weaknesses Provides a clear focus for planning a programme to improve your weakness Provides a baseline or starting point Allows you to monitor your development and compare scores to previous tests.

4 Physical (Fitness) Factor - CRE
Cardio-Respiratory Endurance The ability for the heart and lungs to provide oxygen to the working muscles for a long period of time. Oxygen is a fuel for the muscles to generate energy to move to perform skills/movements.

5 Physical (Fitness) Factor - CRE
In Basketball/Dance/Netball/etc I need high levels of CRE. It allows me to: Maintain a high level of skill throughout the game/performance Sustain higher levels of concentration Recover quicker from attacking runs and tracking back in defence Make more effective decisions

6 Gathering Data on CRE We use Standardised Tests to gather data outwith the activity! 12 min Cooper Test (CRE): Used 400m track and placed cones out every 100m Teacher shouted ‘go’ and started the stopwatch I ran continuously round the track for 12 min I had to pace myself and try not to burn out early. As I jogged a partner measured how far I travelled and gave me and overall score at the end of 12min Accurate and reliable and can be compared to later test Can compare to national average

7 Another method to Test CRE…
1st Method- Bleep Test for CRE (Physical Fitness) Set up cones 20m apart Ran continuously in time with the beeps on cd player As I progressed up levels I had to run faster as the beeps got faster I didn’t stop until I missed the beep twice and recorded the level that I reached This provides objective, reliable and accurate information Able to compare this to national average Able to redo at a later date and compare to check for progress

8 Why use Standardised Fitness Tests?
We use standardised fitness tests because they provide data that is; Valid Reliable

9 Valid/Reliable & Appropriate Data
Valid/Reliable is: Easily managed Consistent - Reliability Accurate - Validity Easy to read and interpret/understand Can be compared to National Average Referred to and compared to previous results

10 Homework In Jotter Due date – Friday 22nd August
Name a ‘Physical’ Factor. Explain why this factor is important to an activity of your choice. (4 marks) Describe how you gathered information on your chosen factor. (4 marks) 12 Minute Cooper Run
