3 Teacher Tier There are four steps every teacher must follow BEFORE a child can be referred to the dean. These four steps are unique to each behavior. Therefore on the behavior log teachers should document behaviors into one of the follow categories: Classroom Misconduct Hallway Misconduct Tardy

4 Teacher discipline steps
1. Warning 2. Educational Assignment 3. Early Morning School (EMS) – 7:15 am – 7:45 am 4. 8th Period – 3:15 pm – 4:00 pm 5. Dean Referral *A teacher cannot refer a student to the dean for classroom misconduct, hallway misconduct, or tardies WITHOUT following these four steps FIRST. Each step MUST be documented on the discipline log.

5 Automatic dean referrals
If a student does any of the following he/she receives an automatic dean referral and is NOT required to complete the four steps 1. Profanity 2. Rude / Defiant 3. Skipping Class 4. Public Display of Affection 5. Removal *the first time a student receives an automatic dean referral for any of the above actions he/she will receive R2. The dean will then progress from there.

6 Dean discipline steps 1. R1 – 100 minutes 2. R2 – 200 minutes
4. Administrative Referral *Students at OMS will NOT miss academic classes due to misbehavior. Students will be assigned restriction for a period of ONE week and they will be responsible for completing their assigned minutes for that week. They will have before school (during EMS), after school (during eighth period), during lunch, and during R&E to complete their required number of minutes. *Deans must complete all referrals given to them within 48 hours of receiving it.

7 Automatic administrative referrals
If a student FIGHTS or is disrespectful to an adult on our campus he/she will receive THREE DAYS of OSS. *In order to determine if a student is fighting adult witnesses are extremely important. The student(s) must engage in the fight, I.E. punch (hit, slap, etc.) and/or punch back, in order to be suspended. *The administration will ALWAYS determine whether a student is rude and defiant or disrespectful. It is VERY IMPORTANT that teachers write an unemotional, but detailed description of the disrespect on the dean referral in order to help inform the administrator of what occurred.

8 Removal If a student is disruptive in a teacher’s class and is administered a discipline step and he/she continues to be disruptive the teacher is permitted to remove the student from the room. In order for the student to be removed the teacher MUST follow the following steps: 1. Discipline step administered 2. Student placed in removal chair to serve as a warning 3. Student is removed from the room to the pre assigned room the teacher has established prior to the beginning of the school year. *the first time a student is removed from the classroom he/she receives a dean referral and the classroom step is erased from the student’s record.
