Here we have some facts about the parish.

Colmcille-where the name came from.
The island of Inchmore in Lough Gowna, had a monastic settement by Its founder St Colmcille gave his name to the surrounding Parish.

From hedge schools to hut schools
By 1820 the hedge school had given way to indoor venues of dubious architectural character . They varied from small thatched houses to those built of stone and mortar. And in some cases in the chapel . One of the first schools built In Pulladoey in 1848 and was replaced with a new school in 1890 which was closed in 1973.

What they had for lunch in the old schools.
Lunch was usually oaten bread or brown soda bread.

How they travelled to school.
Children walked to school up to 1971, when they then travelled by bus.
