Jayanti Rohu
4
‘Jayanti’ rohu Product of Selective breeding of rohu initiated for the first time in India by ICAR-CIFA in collaboration with Institute of Aquaculture Research (AKVAFORSK), Norway to genetically improve rohu for higher growth. Rohu (Labeo rohita) has been chosen as the candidate species for selective breeding as its consumer preference is very high and also it grows slower than catla in polyculture. Base population for the selective breeding of rohu was initiated with from five riverine sources i.e. Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Sutlej, Gomati and ICAR-CIFA stock was added as sixth stock.
5
‘Jayanti’ rohu ‘Jayanti’ rohu first genetically improved fish in India. The Jayanti rohu, is recording 18% more growth per generation after nine generations of selection. Being disseminated to several states in India and more than 20 million seeds disseminated every year from CIFA directly.
6
‘Jayanti’ rohu Improved rohu was named as “Jayanti” in 1997 (i.e. 50th anniversary of Indian independence- Swarna Jayanti), has been released to several hatchery owners so that they can provide better quality seed to the fish farmers. In all the field testing centres J rohu showed superior growth efficiency over local hatchery stocks. It takes 2 month of less time to attain marketable size. It has attractive colour to fetch better price in the market Disease resistant trait against Aeromoniasis was added as second trait to the breeding program.
7
Farming Can be farmed with locally made plant based feed with 25 % protein level. The daily ration of feed may be given in two 3-4% of body weight. Stocking density should be moderate i.e fingerlings/ha to obtain higher yield individually. Periodic health monitoring is also essential. No genetically modified organism is used, hence the fish is environment safe and biodiversity complient.

Demonstration at Tamilnadu
CIFA displayed a demonstration of Jayanti rohu in Arvind Fish Farm at Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu. The Jayanti rohu seeds of 8th generation were stocked in ponds of the farm. Average growth was observed to be 1.5 Kg in 9 months. It was found that the growth trend was similar to the growth detected at the experimental station at Bhubaneswar. Demonstration of genetically improved Catla catla of 1st generation was also conducted parallelly. Average growth was observed to be 1.8 kg in the same period (9 months).

Demonstration of Jayanti rohu in Karnataka
The spawn of J. rohu procured from CIFA HQ on 14th August 2017 was raised to fingerlings at RRC Bangalore and provided to commercial aqua farmers at Bellary and farmers having farm ponds around Bangalore in November 2017. The production data will be available in Sept-October 2018. The demonstration in other districts of Karnataka is also planned for and

FRP carp hatchery The innovation of portable FRP carp hatchery is adding a feather to the blue revolution in the country by producing fish seed at the farmers' field. It can be transported, installed and operated in remote places to ensure easy and timely availability of seeds. Suitable for fish breeding in field conditions for kg of carps in one operation. Marketed by M/s M. R. Aquatech, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
12
Suitable for fish breeding in field conditions for 10-12 kg of carps in one operation.
10-12 lakh spawn can be produced in one operation. In lean season the system can be used for ornamental fish rearing or common carp breeding or water storing. The unit can be operated by unemployed youth, Gram panchayath and Co-op Society on self-operational / rental basis.
13
Benefits Portable in nature, Easy to install and operate,
Low water consumption during fish breeding and spawn (fish seed) production, Easy to repair, Requires less space for installation, Less weight, Durability of the product for 15 years. Established at several states of the country including one at Karapuzha and one proposed at Pookode lake, Wayanad district, Kerala.
14
CIFAX CIFAX is a chemical formulation and first commercialized technology of CIFA It prevents and cures ulcerative diseases of freshwater fishes Marketed by M/s Durga Enterprises, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
15
Immunoboost C Immunoboost-C is an immunostimulant to improve brood fish health and seed production. Modulates fish immunity against microbial diseases, proven through extensive trials conducted at many aquaculture regions in India. Marketed by M/s Star Aqua Lab, Medinapore, West Bengal
16
CIFACURE Used for controlling bacterial and fungal infections of ornamental fishes. Controls bacterial diseases like hemorrhagic septicemia, ulcers, fin rot, tail rot, eye disease and fungal infections. Marketed by M/s Durga enterprises, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
17
FRP Magur hatchery The portable magur hatchery is a simple device comprising a stand on which are placed a row of plastic tubs (12 cm dia, 6 cm high). It includes egg incubation and hatching. Provides suitable environment for high hatching & maximum 50,000 eggs can be incubated at a time. Marketed by M/s M. R. Aquatech, Bhubaneswar, odisha
18
CIFACRYO A manually operated handy cryofreezer for gamete cryopreservation. Suitable and advantageous in terms of liquid nitrogen use, size of the unit, on-farm utilization and easy operation. Helpful in maintaining the temperature of the sample up to C. Marketed by M/s Biotechnika, Bhubaneswar
19
CIFABROOD CIFABROOD is an exclusive carp brood stock diet rich in adequate nutrients Advances gonad growth and maturation and facilitates early spawning Suitable for multiple/repeated breeding in carp Ensures better survival of seed and rapid growth during nursery rearing Validated through repeated field trials
