‘The Elizabethan religious settlement was successfully established in the years 1558 to 1603.’ Assess the validity of this view. What Went Well Even Better If The period was covered Most people covered Catholics and Protestants Using specific detail is still a significant problem Lack of understanding of change over time. You could talk about events in isolation, but rarely were they put into a wider narrative. TASK: You are going to use a model answer to draw comparisons against your own response. Follow the instructions below. Introduction Main Body Conclusion Are my definitions as specific as the ones in the model answer? Is my criteria broad enough for different paragraphs to be analysed in relation to it? Is my judgement as clear, and as substantiated as the model answer? Does the first sentence of my paragraph explain what the paragraph is about, in a way which related to my judgement? Is my evidence as specific as the model answer? Do I explain how the evidence relates to the criteria? Do I make clear how the paragraph links to the question? Does my conclusion make my judgement absolutely clear – with no hesitation? Does my conclusion draw together what I have talked about to prove why my judgement is correct (considering the for and against points) CHALLENGE: In your essays, what is currently preventing you from achieving your personal target grade? Consolidation Activity
1. The Religious Settlement is changed entirely due to lack of conformity 2. Refusal to comply with the settlement, dealt with by changing elements of the settlement/Elizabeth going against her intentions to ‘not make windows into men’s souls’ 3. Refusal to comply with the settlement, but dealt with without changes to the settlement 4. Outward compliance, but not necessarily internal theological support 5. Outward compliance and internal theological support for the settlement TASK: You are going to add in the major events that happen during Elizabeth’s reign (in relation to Religion and opposition to it). You are then going to rank each event out of 5, based on whether Elizabeth’s religious settlement was successfully established or not, using the criteria here. Print A3 – get students to stick it in the middle of an A3 sheet and annotate?
