Time Marches on This week we will be learning how history is divided into different time periods, how to make a timeline, the importance of resources and climate in choosing were to settle and the five themes of geography

Class Website and Homework
This is how you will be able to access our class website. This website is the same for all my students who have World History/Geography Students will create a historical timeline (in presentation software) and must list 3 personal historical events and 3 historical events that have occurred in their lifetime. This is due Friday 12 Sept Students should complete this based on the rubric I have provided them in class (also it is on my website under resources)

Epoch ERA a moment in time chosen as the origin of a particular era
A clearly defined period of time. This period of time is identified by specific characteristics like events or people. For example the Renaissance era

Millennium a period of time equal to one thousand years. It derives from the Latin, mille which means thousand, and annus, for year.

Time Period’s BC – refers to the time period or epoch
before the birth of Christ BCE – alternative to using BC stands for before current era AD – Stands for the Latin term Anno Domini refers to the time period or epoch after the birth of Christ to present day CE – is the abbreviation for the alternative to AD and stands for current era. **There is no year zero in this scheme, so the year AD 1 immediately follows the year 1 BC.

What is History? History (from Greek- historia, meaning "inquiry, knowledge acquired by investigation") is the discovery, collection, organization, and presentation of information about past events. History can also mean the period of time after writing was invented. People who write about history are called historians. Events of the past prior to written record are considered prehistory.

The first known civilizations were located in an area called Mesopotamia which is located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in what is modern day Iraq, Persia (modern day Iran), the Nile river valley in Egypt, parts of India and a parallel development of Chinese civilizations in the Yangtze river valleys

Groups for this Week Computer Group – Brainpop “Religion” and Timeline presentation Small Group finish Week 3 Book Assessment. Read pages in Green Geography books. Answer Assessment Questions. Vocabulary Group – Finish writing sentences/stories and word scramble and then work with flash cards in peer group
