17. Using color to convey meaning in a pie chart.
Here the 4 colors in the pie chart each match up with a Category. Again color is used to define which Category each slice of the pie represents. Category 1 is a dark blue, 2 is dark brown, 3 is light brown and 4 is gray. There are a couple of things I want to change here.

18. More visible separation between pie pieces in the chart.
First, I added a visible border around the pie slices to make it easier to tell where one begins and the other ends. The two shades of brown can be tricky to tell apart. This makes it much more clear. I used white since the colors are all relatively dark. There is still a problem, though: only color tells us which slice represents which category.

19. Labels moved to give visual indication of which pie piece is which.
To take care of that, I just moved the labels from the key off to the side. Now they are each right next to the slice that they represent.
