1 Chapter 2 Section 3 Energy and Matter

2 Thermal Energy: Is the energy of all of the particles in an object meaning, what is the temperature of the substance. How hot or how cold an object is. Endothermic change: a change in which energy is taken in Exothermic Change: a change in which energy is released.

3 Chemical Energy: Is the energy that is stored in the chemical bonds between atoms.
Chemical energy is stored in the food you eat, the gasoline used to fuel cars and even in the cells of your body. Chemical changes usually involve transformation between chemical energy and thermal energy. Example match burns.

4 Electromagnetic Energy: A form of energy that travels into space as waves. Example
Radio waves Microwaves Ultraviolet waves X-rays

5 Electrical energy: The energy of electrically charged particles moving from one place to another.
Electrons move from one place to another in many chemical changes.

6 Transforming Energy: Energy can be changed from one form to the other
Transforming Energy: Energy can be changed from one form to the other. Example: Photosynthesis changes electromagnetic energy from the sun into chemical energy. We transform the food that we eat to thermal energy and motion energy.
