4 Objective of the IEEE 802.15 RFID Study Group
April 19 January 2008 Objective of the IEEE RFID Study Group Determine whether there is sufficient participation from the RFID industry in drafting the PAR and Five Criteria documents required to become a Task Group for the purpose of developing a passive, semi-passive, or active RFID ultra-low energy tag and sensor PHY and/or MAC draft standard which would have; Broad applicability Is a unique solution for a problem Is substantially different from other IEEE 802 Standards. This RFID Standard could be on or more of our current Standards with modification made for RFID applicability Mike McInnis, The Boeing Company

5 April 19 January 2008 Meeting Achievements Reviewed RFID Standards bodies such as EPCglobal and ISO/IEC Discussed the release of a Call for Contributions (CFC). A draft CFC has been written by the Volunteer RFID SG Chair and was forwarded to Bob Heile via for his review and comment. An action item is to release a CFC to the IEEE 802 WG reflector and RFID industry prior to the March IEEE 802 Plenary meeting in Orland, FL. Mike McInnis, The Boeing Company

6 RFID SG General Scope and Purpose
January 2008 RFID SG General Scope and Purpose There is a project opportunity for a Study Group to develop a PAR and 5 Criteria for a draft standard for a PHY and MAC targeting RFID ultra-low energy tag and sensor applications. This is not addressed elsewhere, such as in EPCglobal and ISO Specific problem areas include; ambiguous radio definitions, lack of co-existence, and insufficient security. The Study Group will define the required co-ordination needed with groups such as the IEEE, the EPCglobal group, ISO/IEC 18000, and others. Mike McInnis, The Boeing Company
