3 Look for Figurative Language
I remember it like it was yesterday – my first day of high school. I was like a kid in a candy store, excited and ready to check it all out. My days of being treated like a child were now over, and I was officially becoming an adult. Little did I realize that I would be lost in a sea of books and that being a freshman wasn’t exactly what I had expected. If the truth be told, even with the abundance of work, high school was better than I could have ever imagined. I mean, who wouldn’t enjoy spending hours upon hours studying, completing projects, and being made fun of? I always laughed at the silly pranks in Mean Girls, but I never actually thought those girls existed. I quickly learned who my friends were and realized that I needed to focus on what was important – my future. After a few roadblocks, I finally figured out what it meant to enjoy high school. It wasn’t about being popular or fitting in, it was about learning who I was as a person and developing a drive to want to succeed. Sure, maybe I thought it was a lot of work then, but now that I am a senior and ready to graduate, I realize that all that work may just make me the next Bill Gates!
