The After School Program
Pleasant Green Elementary

The daily lives of these kids
Before school program 7:00am-8:40am School 8:40am-3:45pm After school program 3:45pm-5:45pm Most of the kids in these programs are at school for almost 11 hours out of the day.

Snack Time Snack time is from 3:45-4:00, the kids get one treat and milk. The treat is usually a cookie or fruit. I was put in charge of the kids that were in snack time if they tried to leave they had to tell me

The Class The class I was assigned to had six kids, three girls and three boys. The class was made up of mostly minority just like the whole program.

The Kids These kids are uber open about themselves and even though they are young these kids have been through a lot. The thing I was most impressed with was that the kids did not exclude no one. We really could learn from kids especially in this social justice class. One thing that was hard for me was listening of all the self doubt they had, they would call themselves dumb and other things. But with a little encourage they can do anything they set their minds to.

Play Time I was helping out with the kindergarten kids, at that age they have very short attention spans and a lot of energy. When they are playing the teacher and I would just watch the kids to make sure they were playing on the equipment right. They play until 4:30 and then it is time to do homework.

Homework Time Homework time is the best part of the afterschool program for me, not so much for the kids.

Activity The activity could be anything from playing a game to arts and crafts.

Getting Picked Up They get picked up at 5:45 and the teachers stay with the kids until they are all gone.

Would I do this again? Yes I would do this again I actually stop by when I can to help out. Mostly because of the kids they are great kids. When I help these kids with their homework and encourage them that they can do things they feel are impossible. The moment on their faces when they do what they think was impossible, is the best moment.
