2 Highlights FY19 funding increased to $45 mil
Project total of about 9.4 million tons (58%) of tailings shipped to Crescent Jct. Defensive wells protected river 4 days x 34 railcars x 4 containers x 38 tons average as of Nov, 2012 Observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2992.

3 Non-Defense Environmental Small Projects
Five DOE Non-Defense Environmental Small Projects ARRA* ARRA* ARRA* * American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, aka “Stimulus” Funding Tailings shipment and funding information provided by Moab UMTRA. Other observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2992.

4 201,000 tons per month with ARRA
About 58% of Tailings Removed 37,965 tons per month since workforce reduced in May 2016 & two trains Shipments curtailed Dec 2012 – Feb 2013 due to funding cuts Shipments interrupted by rock slide 201,000 tons per month with ARRA Tailings shipments suspended due to lack of adequate funding. Tailings shipment and funding information provided by Moab UMTRA. Other observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2992.

5 Main Project Goals Move tailings away from Colorado River
Protect river by intercepting ground water contaminants Remediate vicinity properties (VP) Reclaim project sites at Moab and Crescent Junction INCREASED FUNDING FOR FY19!, Project Evaluating Options ACTIVE REMEDIATION 1 remaining of 15 Total project costs are estimated at about $1 billion At the current rolling six month average (40,000 tons / month), tailings removal will be completed around 2033. 10 Ground Water Remediation
Extraction wells between pile and river intercept contaminated ground water Fresh water “curtain” injected when river is low Side channel habitat protected seasonally with added fresh water Injection wells between side channel and Riverside Trail Project totals of > 919,000 pounds of ammonia & nearly 5,000 pounds uranium extracted through Nov, 2018 (kept out of river) Injecting during winter does not protect habitat any better, and tends to clog up wells. ACTIVE ground water remediation could continue 1-2 years after pile removed. Supplemental standards may be applied for PASSIVE remediation. Well field data provided by Moab UMTRA. Other observations provided by Grand County UMTRA Liaison on behalf of the Moab Tailings Project Steering Committee, as established by Grand County Resolution 2992.
