BUT you must STOP your body when the music stops

4 How do you feel? Which movement did you choose?
Which parts of your body were you moving? What do you notice when you move your body parts? Point to a muscle in your: Arm Leg Neck Rest your hand on these muscles while you move them What do you notice?

5 How do they work? How do you think this rubber band may be like a muscle? Muscles have to get smaller and bigger in order to help us move Rubber band stretches and contracts just like our muscles Muscles are made from thousands of elastic-like tissues YES! Like a bunch of elastic bands!

6 Muscles Some muscles are moved by us on purpose Clap your hands
Some muscles move on their own Make your heart beat

7 Muscle types There are three different muscle types in your body
Smooth muscles: muscles that you cannot control Involuntary muscles Often in layers or sheets with one muscle behind the other At work all over your body EXAMPLES? Think: Digestive system Bathroom Sight

8 Muscle types Cardiac muscle: the muscle that makes up the heart
Myocardium Muscle contracts to pump blood out and relaxes to let blood in Also involuntary (like smooth muscles)

9 Muscle types Skeletal muscles: the ones you think of when we say muscles Help to make up the musculoskeletal system Combination of your muscles and bones Voluntary muscles (you can control these!) Skeletal muscles work with your bones to give your body power and strength Attached to one end of a bone, stretched across a joint and attached to the end of another bone Tendons are connectors between bone and muscle

10 Mikey muscle says Let’s play a game! Use your skeletal muscles!
EXAMPLES? Arms: biceps, triceps Chest: pectorals Legs: quadriceps, calf Core: rectus abdominus What ever Mikey Muscle says, you do!

11 Mikey muscle says What were the muscles you moved during sit ups?
