In order to find the distance between two points they need to have the SAME X or SAME Y coordinate. Examples: (1,3) and (1,6) (4,6) and (9,6) Same X value Same Y value

3 How to find the distance between points in the same quadrant?
When points are located in the same quadrant : Ignore the coordinate that they have in common Subtract to find the distance What is the distance between the two points? (1,3) and (1,6) (4,6) and (9,6)

4 How to find the distance between points in different quadrants?
When points are located in different quadrants we can add their absolute values together to find the total distance.

5 Point M and Point P are in different quadrants
Step 1: Ignore the coordinate they have in common Step 2: Find the absolute value of each coordinate. Step 3: Add the absolute values together.

6 I DO: What is the distance between points B & C?
|-3| = 3 |2| = 2 3 + 2 = 5 WE DO: What is the distance between points D & B? |-5| = 5 |2| = 2 5 + 2 = 7 YOU DO: What is the distance between points D & E?

7 Find the distance between the points
(-3,4) and (2,4) (8,1) and (4,1) (-3,-2) and (-5, -2) (4,8) and (4, -10)

To find the perimeter Step 1: Plot all four given points Step 2: Find the distance between each point Step 3: Add the distances together
