1 Raising Aspirations “The success in failing”
Wednesday 19th December

2 A bit about me… I did not try very hard at school (apart from sport) but realised in year 11 that I should try harder (6 GCSE’s). I thought I was going to be a professional rugby league player until I realised aged 19 that I wasn’t good enough… Was asked to leave my first college placement as my attendance was poor (because I was going to be a rugby player…) Went to college to study sport, loved it and did pretty well. Got quite sick whilst at university and a 3 year course took me 4 and a half years to complete. During the last 6 months, I had the opportunity to try teaching.

3 Have you ever failed at something?
Does it make you a failure? Or is it your response that determines who you are?

4 These people never gave up and showed resilience!!
Famous “Failures”… These people never gave up and showed resilience!!

5 What does this look like in school?
The Stephen Longfellow Academy is your second chance, please do not give up on it. “2 strikes” is not the end of the world. If you feel a bit unwell, please still come to school so you do not miss learning. Only leave lesson if you absolutely have to. School is meant to be hard, do not give up on something that is difficult. Why does any of this matter?

6 Today is our careers fair and you are all invited.
Please make the most of this fantastic opportunity. Ask questions and have a good look around. Please remember that you are representing the school so best behaviour. Today could be a very important day if you decide on a career!!

7 Remember… Aim high and never give up on yourself!!
